Pierre Carron at the Académie: elected in 1990, installed in 1991

Pierre Carron was elected to the Académie des beaux-arts on 21 February 1990, succeeding Félix Labisse in his seat. The public reception and installation under the Dome took place on 17 April 1991. The Académie biography records that he later served as its president in 2002 and 2019. The 2019 election to the presidency is covered in a separate article.

The official list of academicians gives the election date.

That day, Pierre was installed by the Permanent Secretary, Marcel Landowski. The welcoming speech was given by the president of the Academy, Arnaud d’Hauterives, his fellow student in Legueult’s studio since 1955. He portrayed a painter steeped in museums, who copied Goya and Delacroix at the Louvre, a child fascinated by insects and fossils, a lover of Bach, and a man of great courtesy.

As custom requires, Pierre then delivered the eulogy of his predecessor, the painter Félix Labisse. He opened it with humour, consulting for that very day the almanac of mysterious powers that Labisse himself had compiled. Both speeches can be read below.
