President of the Académie des beaux-arts in 2019

On 9 January 2019, at its first session of the year, the Académie des beaux-arts elected Pierre Carron president for 2019, with the sculptor Jean Anguera as vice-president. Vice-president in 2018 alongside Patrick de Carolis, he returned to an office he had already held in 2002.

On 21 November 2018, while still vice-president, he had proclaimed the Academy’s prizes under the Dome and presented the winners with their diplomas. During his presidency, on 22 May 2019, the Academy met at the École nationale supérieure d’architecture in Versailles for the second decentralised public session in its history; the debate focused on the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris, a few weeks after the fire. On 27 November 2019, the formal annual session proclaimed the year’s prizes and competitions.
